Norton 3SG Ceramic Wheels

Norton 3SG ™ Ceramic grinding wheels are made from 30% seeded gel ceramic grain hence the trademark 3SG. The ceramic grain was developed by Norton specifically for grinding harder materials such as 01 & D2 tool steels. Ceramic grain fractures under pressure to reveal more sharp edges thus giving the ability to cut for longer without having to dress the wheel as much. This process is known as the friability of grain.
The Norton 3SG grinding wheel is ideally suited in a toolroom environment where the grinding of hardened materials is commonplace. For stock removal we recommend the operator uses a cluster diamond dresser with a fast dress to maximise the open points of the ceramic grain.  Use a slow dress, or a single point diamond to close off the wheel to achieve a better finish on the work piece.
